Hamann to head IT post-conference action committee

Computer Science Professor Bernd Hamann has agreed to head a committee that will review reports from the Chancellor's Fall Conference, which focused on information technology on campus, and develop an action plan using the material.
The theme of this year's conference, held in September at Lake Tahoe, was "Information Technology as a Vehicle for Innovation at UC Davis." Pete Siegel, vice provost for Information and Educational Technology, created the Chancellor's Fall Conference Action Plan Committee on Tuesday.
The group has been asked to:
--develop a brief five-year vision document;
--prepare a specific set of follow-up recommendations based on breakout group reports at the conference;
--prioritize the recommendations;
--and give them wide publicity.
Hamann is also associate vice chancellor for research. Other members of the committee are Francois Gigy, Applied Science and incoming chair of the Campus Council for Information Technology; Mike Hogarth, Internal Medicine and Academic Senate Committee on IT; Carolyn de la Pena, Humanities Institute; Susan Keen, Evolution and Ecology; Louise Kellogg, Computational Science; Kareem Salem, president of the Associated Students of UC Davis; Babette Schmitt, IET (ex officio); Siegel (ex officio); and John Wesson, graduate student in Veterinary Medicine. A representative from the campus administrative IT area had not been named as of Oct. 31.
The work could be complete as soon as Dec. 14.
