Summer teaching/tech institute opens registration
08/21/2009
"Creativity and Productivity" are the twin themes of this year's Summer Institute on Teaching and Technology (SITT), scheduled Sept. 8-11 in 26 Wellman. Registration has begun, lunch is included, and UC Davis faculty can attend for free.
As before, SITT will offer a mix of attractions, ranging from faculty discussion of big-picture questions ("In what new ways might I show enthusiasm for the topics I cover in my classes?") to the smart use of "ubiquitous tools like Facebook and Twitter to spark interest in class topics through student-motivated networking."
Participants will also observe demonstrations by fellow faculty members, try out new tools and teaching approaches in computer classrooms, and have plenty of opportunities to talk shop with colleagues. The schedule is not yet available, but more information about this summer's program is available here.
Andy Jones and Leslie Madsen-Brooks coordinate SITT for the campus Teaching Resources Center. "Every year SITT participants make both discoveries and new friends," Jones said, "and we expect both to be especially true next month."
Last year's SITT (this year's is the 14th) attracted more than 100 faculty. Sessions this summer are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day except Sept. 11, when SITT will end at noon.
