Preview starts for new campus email list service
04/16/2010
The pilot preview phase for Sympa, which will soon replace Listproc as the campus email list service, began this week and will run until June 11.
The goal of this phase is to let people on campus get acquainted with Sympa; collect feedback on its interface and instructions; and help Information and Educational Technology (IET) finish preparing Sympa for its general release.
Faculty, students and staff use Listproc to manage more than 10,000 mailing lists at UC Davis, but the service has grown outdated and no longer meets campus security standards. IET began a project in 2009 to replace it. IET plans to release Sympa to the general campus this summer, and retire Listproc in December.
Class lists are not part of the pilot. They will continue to run on Listproc during spring quarter, and will be moved automatically to Sympa before summer session 1.
All active lists on Listproc will be moved over to Sympa starting in June. Read more at the project site. To start using Sympa during the pilot, go to lists.ucdavis.edu.
