Registration opens for IT Security Symposium at UC Davis

Registration has opened for the 2013 IT Security Symposium, an event for University of California IT professionals to be held June 18-19 at UC Davis.

The conference offers news, information and insights about computing and security, plus plenty of opportunities for technologists to network with peers from throughout the UC system.

The $75 registration fee includes lectures, panel discussions, hands-on labs, meals, refreshments, conference materials, and an event T-shirt.

Nearly 50 different sessions fill the agenda, ranging from "Using a Web Proxy to Stop Users from Downloading Viruses" and "Mobile Devices: Threats and BYOD [Bring Your Own Device]" to "Safe Enablement: Academic Freedom and Network Security Are Not Mutually Exclusive."

All registrations include a seat at the first session on June 19, "What the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) Means to You." Dr. Ernest McDuffie, the lead for the initiative for the National Institute of Standards and Technology, will describe the sweeping, interdisciplinary project to "build a strong, competent, robust cybersecurity workforce throughout the nation."

Registration for the symposium began April 17, ends May 17, and will not be available at the event. Previous symposiums have sold out, and more than 115 people have already registered for this year. Seating in some sessions--particularly the hands-on labs--is limited. Many are likely to fill up quickly.

The campus has presented these symposiums every other year since 2003. Send questions to the planning committee at itss2013@ucdavis.edu.
